Elevating
Removal of lower limbs and branches: This allows for additional sunlight to reach lower plants and for the increased comfort and safety of homeowners and guests. Elevating the tree creates more “head room” beneath the tree and makes the area easier to mow and walk under.

Pruning
Removal of dead branches on a living tree: this is the most common tree maintenance procedure. Improper pruning can cause damage that will last the life of the tree, or worse, shorten the tree's life. Diseased, damaged or dead branches require trees to expend valuable energy in self-defense. A proper pruning also adds to the overall appearance and beauty of the tree, prolonging their useful life by removing undesirable branches, whether they are dead, weakened, diseased or insect infested.

Thinning
Thinning helps by allowing for more sunlight to filter through overly dense trees, and also benefits the tree by improving ventilation through the branches. Thinning, the removal of live branches to reduce density, significantly reduces wind resistance and subsequent storm damage. Thinning should only be done on trees where the crown is "too dense" and a Lyon Tree Service Arborist has training and experience to evaluate this attribute. In some instances, the crown or individual branches require reduction in length to improve the form and shape of the plant, to eliminate interference with objects and structures, and to compensate for structural weaknesses.

Storm Damage Repair
The removal of decaying, broken and dead limbs left in the wake of a storm: Most damage to property during severe weather events occurs due to falling trees and limbs. High winds and saturated soil conditions typical of storms can cause tree roots to fail and branches to weaken. Left unattended, this debris can be harmful to your living trees Woodvalley Landscaping & Tree Service Ltd recommends appropriate treatments such as pruning, installation of supportive cables. Cables are supplemental structural supports intended to reduce the risk of failure of weak branch crotches and multiple stems.
Removal
The elimination of a tree: Our trained crew members remove the most difficult of trees with skilled precision and precaution. Recapture overgrown yard space, allow for the building of extensions, pool or play areas. An arborist can help decide whether or not a tree should be removed. Arborists have the skills and equipment to safely and efficiently remove trees. Trees provide beauty and add value to your property so removal should only be considered where high-risk conditions exist that cannot be effectively mitigated.

Topping
Woodvalley Landscaping & Tree Service Ltd. does not engage in the "topping" of trees. Topping is arbitrarily cutting off the upper portion of the tree to decrease the height. This procedure severely weakens the remaining tree and leaves the tree wide open to a variety of harmful elements, such as insects, water damage, rodents and disease. We will be pleased to meet with you to discuss the many prudent alternatives to topping, including crown reduction, which reduces the height of the tree within the standard of proper pruning techniques.
